When it comes to finding a snack for your kiddos that you know they will love, smoothies are always an easy go-to. Smoothies are a simple and versatile option that kids of all ages and even the pickiest of eaters love. Served as an after-school snack or even a breakfast alternative, your kids will love this healthy chocolate smoothie!

Just like any other great smoothie, including a variety of fruits and veggies is key! For this healthy smoothie, I chose to include bananas, cherries, and kale.  The flavors of these two fruits complement each other beautifully, pair great with the kale, and give a sweetness to this healthy smoothie that is addicting.

I’ve opted for kale in this healthy smoothie as it is a nutrient-dense add-in. Kale is a popular leafy green that is packed full of health benefits. It is high in antioxidants, full of fiber and sulfur, and one of the healthiest foods you can eat. This smoothie is featured in one of Liz Weiss’s fantastic recipe round-ups, the theme of which is kale as a main ingredient!

The next ingredient blended into this smoothie is flax.  Flax is a great smoothie add-in as it aids in digestive health, and is also rich in Vitamin E, promoting skin and hair health!

Unsweetened cocoa powder is the star of this smoothie and it is packed full of nutrients such as:

  • Iron

  • Zinc

  • Selenium

  • Magnesium

Chia seeds are also added into this healthy smoothie for additional health benefits, as well as almond butter for a creamy texture. This filling, nutrient-rich smoothie is a favorite in our home, and I know it will be a new go-to in your home as well.

One fun tip you can also do with any extra smoothie is freeze it into popsicles! I love these adorably sweet Zoku popsicle molds* that come in playful shapes, sizes, and colors. Enlist your kids in the process of making popsicles! Engaging them in food prep can help them accept a variety of new foods, flavors, and textures.

If you make this Chocolate Cherry Smoothie, I would be so grateful if you would rate it and leave a comment! The star ratings help more people find my recipes and articles. Thank you!

Enjoy!
