Dark Chocolate Easter Bark

Dark Chocolate easter bark with rosebud leaves

Check out this easy Easter chocolate treat that you can prep in less than 10 minutes (not including setting time) made primarily with pantry staples you might already have - except of course for the crushed rose petals which are optional!

Dark chocolate has always been my most beloved dessert flavor- the darker the better!

Paired with a little salt, the crunch and nutty taste of toasted pecans and the color pop of edible rose petals, I find this dessert irresistible. It’s geared more toward adults, although my girls have always enjoyed this Easter treat as well and find it interesting that some flower petals are edible (this inspired many conversations about food safety and making sure that we don’t eat random plant foods that we find growing out and about lol).

I would avoid offering this dessert to kids under the age of 2 to avoid excess added sugar in their diets, and if serving to a child ages two and up, just be sure to monitor and watch that you don’t give them any pieces with larger nut chunks or rose buds.

Instead of using the microwave to melt your chocolate, you can always use a double boiler if you have one. Be sure to use parchment paper to line your sheet pan for easy clean up and an even easier removal of your bark from the pan once it’s set.

You can alway opt for different toppings as well, if you prefer!

Some alternative topping ideas include 1/3 cup of:

  • Dried cranberries

  • Chopped hazelnuts

  • Chopped almonds

  • Toasted shredded coconut

  • Toasted rice cereal

If you love chocolate as much as I do, check out these additional recipes for Chocolate Silken Tofu Pie (shockingly good and suitable for kids ages 2 and up) and Creamy Avocado Banana Chocolate Pudding (which has no added sugar and works well for kids ages 1 and up). Happy snacking!

Ingredients

  • 1 (12 ounce) package bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 1/3 finely chopped pecans (lightly toasted)
  • 1 tsp premium dried rosebud leaves* (crushed)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Maldon Seas Salt Flakes

Instructions

  1. Place chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30 second intervals, pausing in between to stir chocolate with a spatula until it’s fully melted and smooth.
  2. On a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper, pour chocolate and spread into a thin layer that is about 1/4th of an inch thick.
  3. Sprinkle pecans, rose petals and salt evenly over chocolate.
  4. Let bark set at room temperature for at least 4 hours without refrigerating (refrigerating can cause condensation to form on the surface which can lead to mushy toppings).
  5. Store at room temperature in an air tight container for up to 2 weeks.
